On Thursday, June 12, the Voršilská Centre held a formal end-of-year ceremony in its chapel, bringing together students from intensive courses, their teachers, academic assistants, and the management of UJOP. The event opened with a speech by the Centre’s Director, Mgr. Petra Landergott Kalvínská, who noted that more than 3,500 students from 105 countries studied at UJOP during the academic year.

On Friday, June 6, students from the Krystal Centre gathered in the Blue Lecture Hall in Celetná to receive their certificates and formally conclude their studies at UJOP UK. The head of the Prague Study Centre, Mgr. Petra Landergott Kalvínská, welcomed the students and reminded them that their academic journey had begun in this very hall back in September—and now ends in the same place. She was followed by the Director of UJOP UK, PhDr. Dana Hůlková Nývltová, Ph.D., who greeted the students and, in her address, emphasized the importance of the freedom of education. She praised the admirable effort students demonstrated throughout the year and noted that this academic year is a special one, marking the 50th anniversary of UJOP as part of Charles University.

On June 5, the ceremonial hall near the castle gardens at the Poděbrady Centre hosted a graduation ceremony, symbolically closing the 2024/2025 academic year. Students, teachers and staff gathered to celebrate the successful completion of a demanding period of study.
Diplomas were awarded to students who successfully completed the foundation programmes, while several students also received special awards from their class teachers in recognition of excellent attendance and exceptional effort during the year.

Charles University and the Czech Chamber of Commerce have signed a memorandum of cooperation, launching a joint initiative to tackle the acute shortage of healthcare personnel in the Czech Republic. The solution: recruiting qualified medical professionals from Vietnam. The Institute for Language and Preparatory Studies at Charles University (UJOP UK) will play a key role in this project by providing Czech language and professional training to selected Vietnamese healthcare workers.

On Wednesday, May 28, 2025, students of UJOP set out on an imaginative journey around the world—without ever leaving the corridors of the Voršilská Center. The academic assistants and teachers organized a creative event titled Around the World with Students, turning the school into a global stage for learning and fun.

In response to growing demand, UJOP continues to expand its testing capacity and number of exam dates. A new option has now been introduced: candidates can take the Czech language and civics exam for Czech citizenship over two consecutive Wednesdays at the Krystal Centre in Prague—and starting in June, also in Brno. Under the new format, candidates complete the written portion of the Czech language and civics exam on the first day. Some candidates then proceed directly to the oral exam on the same day, while others return the following day to complete it.

On 23 May 2025, the Erasmus Staff Week came to a close in the historic Chapel of the Voršilská Centre, where participants gathered to receive their certificates and celebrate the conclusion of an enriching week. Erasmus Staff Week brings together academic and administrative staff from various European institutions to exchange knowledge and experiences. The programme offers workshops and presentations focused on teaching Czech to foreigners, as well as plenty of opportunities to build new connections and share best practices and proven approaches in language education.

Last week, students enrolled in the foundation programmes for Medicine and Pharmacy added a sweet twist to their studies.After a year of dedicated study and successfully completing their first university entrance exam, the students traded textbooks for mixing bowls. They learned how to prepare puff pastry and baked strudel filled with either cottage cheese or Nutella. The activity offered not only a break from routine but also a delicious reward for their hard work.

On Monday, May 12, 2025, the Voršilská Centre hosted a spirited competition celebrating the talents of Czech language learners from around the world. Nine courageous students demonstrated their linguistic and presentation skills in the PowerPoint Presentation Contest. The topics were as diverse as the participants themselves - ranging from bees and Hollywood experiences to healthy eating, cholesterol, unusual jobs, Romanian traditions, digital detoxing, the minimalist language Toki Pona, and even the age-old dilemma of Mondays.

As part of its ongoing mission to support international students in their transition to Czech higher education, UJOP regularly invites alumni to share their experiences with current students. One such meeting took place on Friday, April 11, 2025, at the Krystal centre, where humanities foundation students had the opportunity to engage with a successful graduate now studying for her PhD. Anastasiya Vasilevskaya, who moved to the Czech Republic from her home country at age eighteen to get a top-quality European education, began her academic journey in UJOP’s foundation courses.
