The Institute for Language and Preparatory Studies of Charles University (ILPS CU) is an independent part of Charles University and was established based on the Constitution of Charles University.

We are the only workplace in the Czech Republic that systematically tackles both general and specific aspects in the field of language and subject-oriented preparation of foreigners for study at Czech universities. The long tradition of teaching Czech language and preparation for study starts at the beginning of the 1960s. The ILPS CU as part of Charles University was established in 1974.

We focus on teaching and testing Czech as a foreign language, training in specialized subjects in Czech, preparation for study at universities, professional preparation and teaching in accredited study programmes within the university.

We also pursue scientific, research, methodological and publishing activities in the field of teaching Czech as a foreign language and preparing foreigners to study in Czech.

We are an exclusive member of The Association of Language Testers in Europe (ALTE) in the Czech Republic. We have developed an internationally recognized Czech Language Certificate Exam for Foreigners (CCE), which we offer in our network of test centres in the Czech Republic and abroad. We also perform Examination for permanent residence and Examination for Czech citizenship.
