Humanities Foundation Students Gain Insight from UJOP Graduate

As part of its ongoing mission to support international students in their transition to Czech higher education, UJOP regularly invites alumni to share their experiences with current students. One such meeting took place on Friday, April 11, 2025, at the Krystal centre, where humanities foundation students had the opportunity to engage with a successful graduate now studying for her PhD.

Anastasiya Vasilevskaya, who moved to the Czech Republic from her home country at age eighteen to get a top-quality European education, began her academic journey in UJOP’s foundation courses.

Thanks to her dedication and strong academic performance, she quickly rose to the top of her class. The language foundation she gained at UJOP allowed her to continue her studies at the Faculty of Arts, Charles University, where she earned a degree in East European Studies and Russian Language and Literature. She is currently completing her doctoral research in Slavic Literature.

During her visit, Anastasiya shared her academic journey, personal experiences, and practical advice with current students preparing for university studies in the humanities.

She offered tips on applying to philology programmes, navigating university life, and making the most of the student experience—sprinkled with humorous anecdotes and honest reflections. While acknowledging the challenges, she emphasized that the journey was deeply rewarding.

Her advice to students was clear: step outside your comfort zone, make Czech friends, and try new activities that help you grow—not only in language skills but also personally. "There are many paths to success," she said."
