In September of this year, UJOP welcomed a new group of Mongolian students who were awarded scholarships by the President of Mongolia. One of these students, Uchralt, shared her experience with us—what it’s like to travel to a completely different country to study.
She arrived at our meeting lively and energetic, greeting us with a big smile.
Uchralt: Hi, my name is Uchralt. I come from Mongolia, and now I'm studying here at UJOP in the Engineering and IT preparatory course.
What are you currently studying in the Engineering and IT preparatory course, and why did you choose this program?
Uchralt: I am currently focusing mostly on my math skills to perfect them. I chose this program, because I would like to study physics in my future.
Wow that’s really cool! What do you like about physics?
Uchralt: Physics is all about understanding the fundamental rules that make the universe work. It’s a mix of precision and creativity—it explains everything from why apples fall to what keeps the stars shining. It’s also the backbone of modern technology—every smartphone, satellite, and medical breakthrough is built on the principles of physics.
You seem to really like physics. Do you have a dream career in mind?
Uchralt: One day, I would like to work for SpaceX or NASA, you know. (She giggles.) And studying at Charles University might be the first step to achieving that.
Great to hear that! So tell me, what are the teachers like at UJOP? How are they helping you with the university entrance process?
Uchralt: The teachers are very skillful and helpful. They always support you, even when you make mistakes. They never just tell you that you’re wrong or that you shouldn’t do something. Instead, they try to help by asking, “Why?” Why is it that way? Why does it work like that? Their approach is very gentle but effective, and it really helps me improve.
They also provide a lot of information about how to enter university and prepare for the entrance tests. They’re very supportive and always willing to help because they really want you to succeed. And they can even give you great tips on where to go if you want to have some fun! They know the city really well and are always happy to share their recommendations.
That sounds great! What do you think about your student life at UJOP?
Uchralt: I never imagined studying abroad before coming here. There are so many international students, and they are all very friendly. I’m building strong relationships with other students from different countries, and I really enjoy it. It’s a great environment to meet new people and learn from different cultures.
It must be hard to be so far from home.
Uchralt: Yeah, but I really like the environment here in Poděbrady. It is calm, and you can really focus on your studies. The town is also very pretty, and since I study here with my new friends, it feels almost like a second home to me now.

Is the Czech language difficult for Mongolian people?
Uchralt (smiles): It’s somewhat similar to Russian and English, but not exactly the same. I think the pronunciation isn’t hard for me because I can easily pronounce sounds like 'R' and 'Š.' So that part isn’t the most difficult. The most challenging aspect is probably the grammar, as it works differently compared to Mongolian grammar. But the teachers at UJOP make sure you get the hang of it well, so I’m confident I can learn Czech here.
This event is designed for international students taking preparatory courses who are preparing to apply to Czech universities in economics and technical fields. You can get a European degree in Czech, where education is free, or in English, at affordable prices.
Charles University offers preparatory courses in both options:
• English Preparatory Programs
These courses not only provide language training but also include preparation in specialized subjects, visa support, assistance with nostrification, academic guidance, and various cultural and educational events.
