Doors open day at Sutnarka impressed ÚJOP UK students

The doors open day at the Ladislav Sutnar faculty of design and art of the University of West Bohemia in Pilsen proved to be an unforgettable experience for the students of the Institute for Language and Preparatory Studies of Charles University (ÚJOP UK). On 10 November 2023, dozens of people interested in bachelor's, master's and doctoral studies flocked to the faculty. They did not miss the unique opportunity to take a look inside more than twenty art studios and get acquainted with the environment and background of the spaces where design and art are taught. 

Nonna Lorenz, a teacher of architecture and art at ÚJOP, was waiting for the students in Pilsen as a guide. The students of the preparatory courses could not get a more knowledgeable guide because Nonna studied at the faculty in the ceramics studio led by Gabriel Vach. 

In her work, Nonna tries to find a balance between various media and means of expression. Her interests go far beyond her original field, and it was this multi-genre approach and her knowledge of individual Pilsen studios that made the doors open day a success.Thanks to her insight, all prospective art students were quickly placed in the appropriate art studios, where consultations on studies and portfolios were held throughout the day.

It was very inspiring for the potential students to talk to the current students of the faculty who continued working on their artworks in their studios. During informal conversations, they shared their stories and experiences, giving the visitors a real insight into the student life at Sutnarka.  

The doors open day at Sutnarka provided inspiration and useful information to the prospective students of art and design who are looking for the right place for their education. The unique opportunity to have their own portfolios reviewed directly by the teachers of the faculty will increase their chances for admission. For all the students, the possibility of a consultation was very helpful and will make it easier for them to select the best artworks of their own to submit in the admissions process.
