A group of students studying in Poděbrady recently had the opportunity to tour Crystal Bohemia, one of the Czech Republic's most renowned glassworks, located in the town. The visit was designed to provide international students with an in-depth look at the glass manufacturing process, offering them a chance to connect the engineering theories they study in class with real-world applications.
For economics students, the tour provided valuable insights into the company’s business operations, including production strategies, administrative processes, and management techniques. This experience helped them better understand how technical knowledge and business strategy come together to drive a company’s success. In addition, students learned about the rich history and cultural heritage of Crystal Bohemia, a key player in Czech glassmaking.
Following the excursion, the students were tasked with creating a project that incorporated the knowledge they had gained. Economics students focused on analysing the company’s operations, including management practices, marketing strategies, employee relations, and production volumes. Meanwhile, technical students explored the technologies and materials used in the production process, as well as the balance between manual craftsmanship and automation and the development of the glass industry.
A highlight of the visit was the discovery of glass slippers, a charming reference to the Cinderella fairy tale. Students were also intrigued to learn that the sand used in glassmaking has an additional, unusual use as a skin exfoliant.
This event is designed for international students taking preparatory courses who are preparing to apply to Czech universities in economics and technical fields. You can get a European degree in Czech, where education is free, or in English, at affordable prices.
Charles University offers preparatory courses in both options:
These courses not only provide language training but also include preparation in specialized subjects, visa support, assistance with nostrification, academic guidance, and various cultural and educational events.
