Politics, Philosophy and Economics: A Visit to FSV UK

Are you interested in exploring topics like human society, politics, and economics?

On Friday, February 7, 2025, students from UJOP who are considering these subjects for their university studies had the opportunity to visit the Faculty of Social Sciences (FSV) at Charles University to learn more about their academic options.

The students met in the atrium of the new FSV building in Jinonice, where they were welcomed by Ing. Petr Špecián, Ph.D., assistant professor and coordinator for student affairs in the Politics, Philosophy and Economics (PPE) programme. During the session, they discussed the PPE programme, its interdisciplinary approach, and what studying at FSV entails.

Inspired by the Oxford style of education, the PPE programme combines politics, philosophy, and economics, providing students with a broad understanding of these interconnected fields. This integrated approach gives graduates valuable qualifications for careers in both the public and private sectors.

Dr. Špecián explained that the PPE programme’s broad curriculum also allows students to continue their studies with a narrower specialization, either at Czech universities or abroad. Many graduates go on to study at prestigious institutions, including the London School of Economics and Oxford University.

He also emphasized that the programme follows the Oxford method of evaluation, with assessments not just at the end of the semester, but also in the middle of the term, placing significant importance on group projects, report writing, and discussions.

In addition to the academic details, students received information about the admissions process, tuition costs, and available scholarships and discounts. The visit concluded with a tour of the FSV building.
