Opening a scholarship programme for Ukrainian students

On Friday, 18 October 2024, a scholarship programme for Ukrainian students, under the title Language as a Gateway, was opened at the Poděbrady castle with the support of the Ministry of Education, Youth and Sports. Almost fifty students were greeted by Barbora Štindlová, deputy director for studies. She mentioned, among other things, that this is the second year of this programme. The scholarship programme offers 18 classes of Czech and 4 classes of specialized subjects per week, totalling 660 classes per academic year. On account of the specialized subjects the preparation is divided into humanities, natural sciences or technical and economic fields. The students can look forward to practical and interactive teaching, accompanied by a rich extra-curricular programme, including support in nostrification (recognition) of foreign education and university application. The subsequent application to a university is incidentally one of the conditions of admission to the programme, as is also a minimum attendance of 70%.

The consistent support of students from Ukraine by UJOP does not end with this project. UJOP offers more support programmes:

- Czech is the Key - Czech language courses for Ukrainians with temporary protection in the Czech Republic co-financed by the European Union with the support of the Ministry of Interior of the Czech Republic. These courses are available until the end of 2026.

- Czech for Ukrainian students of Charles University - support for Ukrainian students at Charles University, organised with the support of the Ministry of Education, Youth and Sports, which includes not only Czech language courses, but also group or individual consultations to prepare students for exams or to help them write academic papers.
