Nearly 50 Ukrainian scholarship holders successfully completed a year of preparation for further studies

On Friday, 12 July, the preparatory courses organized by ÚJOP UK in Prague and Poděbrady as part of a scholarship programme for Ukrainian students finished. Forty-five promising young people were thus given the chance, despite their difficult situation, to educate themselves in the Czech language and specialized subjects so that they could successfully continue their studies at universities in the Czech Republic.

"We are glad that we could support students from a country ravaged by war who want to receive a good education," says the head of the centre in Poděbrady, Mgr. Lukáš Vaňous, after the certificate awarding ceremony. Fifteen students from Ukraine participated in the two-semester scholarship programme at the Poděbrady study centre. Twelve of them were preparing for technical studies, the remaining three for economic fields. Some have already been admitted to universities, others are waiting for the second round of entrance exams. All of them passed the B2 exam in Czech language successfully and in due time.

From last October to July 2024, another 30 students were preparing to study in the Czech Republic at the Krystal Centre in Prague, six of them focusing on the natural sciences, while the majority were preparing to study the humanities. Ukrainian graduates of the ÚJOP scholarship programme are heading to various universities in the Czech Republic. They often go to the faculties of Charles University (UK), the Czech Technical University (ČVUT) or the Czech University of Agriculture (ČZU). Among the specific fields of study students apply to are, for example, Czech studies, pedagogy or criminology.

"After the outbreak of the war, I moved with my family to the Czech Republic, where I finally decided to study because you have a good education system here," says Anya Sukhotska, one of the graduates of the ÚJOP preparatory course. "I'm going to Charles University, Faculty of Education, specializing in pedagogy combined with mathematics. My parents are both teachers and I would like to continue in this profession."

The diverse, unique students can now thanks to the scholarship and their studies at ÚJOP UK further develop their skills, talents and ambitions.
