Preparatory programme for Ukrainian students

Applications for the COMPLEX scholarship preparation programme are now closed.

The evaluation of applicants for the one-year preparatory course for Ukrainian students, supported by TKFF, is currently underway. We will inform all applicants of the results by 15 August 2022.

A total of 75 young people from among Ukrainian refugees will have the opportunity to prepare for studies at Czech universities free of charge in the annual courses of the Institute for Language and Preparatory Studies of Charles University. The Kellner Family Foundation decided to support their education.

Together with the Foundation, we share the belief that quality education is the gateway to a better life. Scholarship support for a year of language and specialised training is intended for Ukrainian students from difficult family and economic backgrounds who have decided to continue their studies in the Czech Republic and develop their talents at one of the Czech universities. In the preparatory programme, which starts on 5 September, during one year, students will master the Czech language to the level necessary to pass the entrance exams and will also prepare for their future studies.

If you decide to apply for the Scholarship Preparation Programme, you will need to complete the online application for the FAST programme. You must also provide all the required documents with your application. It may take some time to prepare certain documents, so we recommend that you have these ready before starting to fill in the application form.

WHAT CAN YOU STUDY?

Within the scholarship programme for Ukrainian students you can choose between two basic study programmes

  • Applications for the COMPLEX preparatory programme are now closed. COMPLEX preparatory programme of 35 lessons per week is designed for students with zero or basic knowledge of the Czech language and combines intensive Czech language classes with studying specialized subjects.
  • FAST preparatory programme of 25 lessons per week is designed for students with at least a B1 level of Czech according to the CEFR and combines the improvement of Czech language skills with studying specialized subjects. In order to enter the FAST programme, the required level of Czech language skills must be documented by a certificate/proof of proficiency, or an affidavit and information about the Czech language courses you have taken.

The study in both types of programmes includes Czech language classes together with specialized subjects. The academic year begins with a two-week adaptation-orientation course. It is an intensive Czech language course accompanied by an introduction into Czech culture and history, basic orientation in the study centre, the Institute of Language and Preparatory Studies (ÚJOP) and the general area. Classes in specialized subjects start from the third week. These classes revise and supplement students' high-school knowledge, prepare students specifically for the questions and tasks of the entrance exams and for the start of their university studies. Instructors combine theoretical instruction with practical assignments and practice.

You will take regular tests to monitor your progress in both Czech and the specialized subjects. In the Czech language, each semester ends with a language exam. Upon successfully passing the final exam, you will receive a certificate of achieved knowledge of the Czech language (B2). You will take semester exams in the specialized subjects at the end of each semester.

The tuition consists of seminars, lectures and complex assignments supported by the possibility of regular individual consultations with the teachers. Studying at ÚJOP UK aims at preparing students for the methods of work necessary for university studies (independence, responsibility, time management).
