This course is organised by the Institute for Language and Preparatory Studies (UJOP CU). It is intended exclusively for Erasmus+ students arriving at Charles University before the start of the winter or summer semester. Students outside the Erasmus+ programme are not permitted to enrol. Erasmus+ students participating in this course eligible for co-funding are officially enrolled via the Rectorate of Charles University, not directly at the Institute for Language and Preparatory Studies.

Course details:

• Purpose: To help Erasmus+ students become familiar with the basics of Czech before the beginning of their academic term.
• Levels: Group instruction is available for students with no prior knowledge of Czech (starting at A0 level). Students with some knowledge of Czech may be accommodated with an individual study plan.
• Duration & Credits: The course consists of 75 teaching hours and carries 5 ECTS credits. ECTS credits are awarded to students who successfully pass the final exam and achieve a minimum attendance of 80%.
• Schedule: Offered in August/September and January, immediately preceding the academic semester.
• Content: The course focuses on practical Czech for everyday communication and academic life, supporting smooth integration into university studies and local culture.
• Immersive activities: In addition to classroom instruction, the course includes various cultural and experiential activities, such as:
  • Lectures on Czech culture and society
  • Excursions and workshops (e.g., field trips to galleries / museums / a farewell social gathering at the end of the course

This course is organised for Erasmus+ students who wish to continue their Czech language studies during the academic semester. Students enrol on site.

Students who enrol in both courses and successfully complete them (135 teaching hours in total, 8 ECTS credits) are awarded a microcertificate.

• The microcertificate confirms Czech language proficiency at the A1 level, even without taking the official CCE examination.
• It is recognised across multilingual Europe as proof of basic Czech language competence and supports academic mobility and cultural integration.

Our in-person courses take place in Voršilská street in the centre of Prague, a five-minute walk from the Národní třída metro stop, or at the Krystal Centre, a modern university mini-campus, located just 15 minutes by public transport from Václav Havel Airport and the historic center of Prague, the centre is also close to the Divoká Šárka Nature Reserve.
