The Czech National Bank Welcomes Students from Foundation Programmes

On Tuesday, February 24, students enrolled in humanities foundation programmes visited the Czech National Bank, the institution that plays a central role in managing the Czech economy.

Upon arrival, the group underwent security screening and stored their personal belongings in lockers. They were then free to immerse themselves in the world of finance and explore the “bank of banks” — the institution that supervises the activities of commercial banks and safeguards the stability of the Czech koruna.

The visit began with a welcome address from the guide, who screened a short film about Czech banknotes directed by Jiří Strach. Through the film, students were introduced to the prominent figures whose portraits appear on Czech banknotes and were reminded of their contributions to Czech history.

Particularly engaging was the section devoted to the security features of banknotes. Students learned how to distinguish genuine notes from counterfeits and were given the opportunity to examine real counterfeit banknotes up close. The practical demonstration captured everyone’s attention.

The guide also introduced the students to the workings of the Bank Board, explaining who leads the body and outlining the responsibilities of its individual members. The group then proceeded to the underground vault, where they had the rare opportunity to hold an authentic gold bar.

The excursion, which enriched students with new knowledge and a memorable experience, concluded with a group photograph.
