On 12 February, students enrolled in technical, economics, and medical foundation programmes took part in an educational visit to the University of Hradec Králové (UHK) and the Faculty of Medicine of Charles University in Hradec Králové (LFHK). The excursion offered them a closer look at the academic environment, individual faculties, and student life in this university city.
Following an introductory welcome in the main lecture hall, students from the medical foundation programmes were divided into four groups and gradually rotated through several departments of the faculty.
Their first stop was the Department of Anatomy, where they posed numerous questions about the human body. They were introduced to a virtual dissection table that allows detailed visualization of various parts and systems of the human body. Among other insights, they learned about the crucial role that Latin plays in the study of anatomy.
The programme continued at the Simulation Centre, where students had the opportunity to practice life-saving techniques by performing chest compressions on mannequins. This was followed by visits to the Department of Biophysics, where they explored modern technologies used in the treatment of serious diseases, and the Department of Physiology, where they tried out selected medical examination procedures.

Back in the main lecture hall, a faculty presentation provided detailed information about the admissions process, student facilities—including psychological and academic support services—as well as sports and cultural activities available at the faculty.
A particularly valuable part of the visit was the discussion with current medical students, including those in senior years and a graduate of last year’s foundation programme at the Institute for Language and Preparatory Studies (UJOP). Drawing on his own experience, he emphasized the importance of the medical foundation programme, especially thorough preparation in specialized subjects, Czech language studies, and Latin.
Students from the technical and economics foundation programmes visited the Faculty of Informatics and Management (FIM UHK). The visit began with a presentation introducing the faculty’s study programmes, career prospects for graduates, and admission requirements.
The students were then divided into two groups according to their field of interest—Economics and Information Technology (IT). Within these groups, they became acquainted with the structure of the programmes, core subjects, and the practical aspects of studying at the faculty.
The programme also included a guided tour of the city of Hradec Králové and the university campus. Students received practical advice for their potential future studies, such as recommendations on dining options and information about dormitory accommodation costs, shared directly by current students.
Hradec Králové is often described as a student city with modern infrastructure and attractive architecture. Compared to Prague, it offers a quieter environment, lower living costs, and a welcoming atmosphere—conditions well suited to both academic pursuits and leisure activities.
The excursion provided students with a valuable opportunity to gain a realistic understanding of university studies in the Czech Republic and of life in one of the country’s prominent university cities.
