Students of the Institute for Language and Preparatory Studies Welcomed into the Academic Community of Charles University at Karolinum

On Friday, September 12, 2025, the Czech national anthem resounded through the Great Hall of Karolinum as more than 300 international students rose to ceremoniously mark the beginning of their stay in the Czech Republic and their studies in the foundation courses of the Institute for Language and Preparatory Studies (ÚJOP) at Charles University.

The new students, representing more than 60 countries, were formally welcomed into the academic community of Charles University not only by Eva Voldřichová Beránková, Vice-Rector of Charles University for International Affairs, but also by Dana Hůlková Nývltová, Director of UJOP, and by two graduates of last year’s foundation programmes. In their addresses, Leen Ahmad, from the medical programme at the Prague–Krystal Centre, and Rivaldo Teixeira, from the technical programme in Poděbrady, shared their experiences and advice, offering inspiration and reassurance that success is achievable. They showed that a year spent at UJOP brings not only lasting memories, but also personal growth, maturity, and readiness to pursue studies at Czech universities.

At the close of the ceremony, the new students had the opportunity to learn more about the history and significance of both Charles University and Karolinum from Milada Sekyrková of the Institute of History at Charles University.
