UJOP is Making Dreams Come True: Myanmarese Student Shwe Moe Eain’s Study Experience at UJOP

Last school year, UJOP welcomed a group of students from Myanmar who chose the Czech Republic to pursue their higher education. One of these students, Shwe Moe Eain, is currently studying the Engineering and IT program at UJOP Charles University and shared her experience with us.

How do you like the Czech Republic?

Studying in a European country has always been one of my biggest dreams. After doing some research, I found out that the Czech Republic is one of the safest countries in the world, and its universities have a strong reputation. I can also get a higher education at an affordable price, which attracted me to study here. Moreover, I heard from some senior students that the transportation system is excellent and that students can enjoy various benefits, such as discounts when shopping, which makes life more convenient. Another thing I enjoy is how people here maintain a healthy and balanced lifestyle.

What is your specialization in the Foundation programme classes?

Mathematics, Physics, IT are my specialization subjects in the preparatory classes.

What are your plans for the future? Your plans in the Czech Republic? What career path are you going to choose?

I am eager to become a data scientist, and my plans in Czechia are to gain experience and expand my social network while studying here. As for my long-term goals, honestly, I do not have a strict plan yet because life is always changing. I want to seize as many opportunities as I can. I want to challenge myself and grow both in confidence and skills. I prefer not to set strict boundaries when it comes to my educational journey.

Why did you want to study that? What do you appreciate about UJOP courses?

I wanted to study at a university without facing overwhelming pressure from the start, so I decided to join this program at UJOP UK first. I appreciate this course because it allows me to build a solid academic foundation in related subjects before entering university.

What is your favourite subject at UJOP?

Mathematics has been one of my favourite subjects since childhood. I also enjoy Czech classes, even though they are somewhat difficult. But I manage because I am interested in learning languages and different cultures, which helps me broaden my worldview.

How are the teachers and support staff at UJOP?

The teachers and staff are very kind and helpful. We can freely talk about our concerns with them, and they are always ready to assist us.

Have you got any interesting story that happened while studying at UJOP?

Yes, I have an interesting story from Math class. The teacher often asks students to come up and solve problems on the board. At first, I was scared of making mistakes, but later I found it fun and interesting to solve problems in front of the class. This not only increased my confidence but also helped me understand the material much better.

How is student life at UJOP?

Student life at UJOP is quite enjoyable and feels like a helpful training course before attending university.

Why would you recommend UJOP or studying in the Czech Republic to other students?

I would recommend this study program if you want to build a strong academic foundation before entering university. The professors and teachers guide us in preparing for entrance exams and teach us the subjects related to our intended majors. The only thing we have to do is take responsibility for our growth and development.

Any culture shocks when arriving in the Czech Republic?

When I first arrived, I was freezing in the 8-degree weather—it was quite a struggle for students from tropical countries. Another difference is Czech cuisine. It’s quite different, and the meals are a bit heavier than what I’m used to.

Is there anything you miss from your country?

Definitely the food. As a foodie, I enjoy Czech cuisine, but I really miss the flavors and spices of the dishes I grew up with.
