Czech Language Exam for Applicants for Permanent Residency - General Information

How much is it?

At registration prior to the exam, candidates must submit a voucher issued by the Ministry of Internal Affairs in his/her name and valid proof of identification.

On the day of the exam, the institute will issue a certificate of approval to candidates who pass the examination on the required knowledge level of the Czech language.

Candidates who fail may register again for another examination on a different date.

The price of the examination is 1,500 CZK. Payment is due in cash at the examination site.

Dictionaries, mobile phones and other electronic devices are not permitted during the examinations. Candidates who violate regulations can be suspended from the examination.

Exam Overview

The examination consists of two parts: written and oral. Candidates sit both parts on the same day.

The written part takes 70 minutes. It consists of three assessments:

  • reading comprehension (35 min)
  • listening comprehension (15 min)
  • writing (20 min)

Candidates must achieve a score of 60% or higher to pass the written examination successfully. Candidates who do not score at least 60% in any one of the parts of the written examination will not be allowed to sit the oral examination.

The oral examination takes 10 minutes. It consists of three parts:

  • controlled oral communication, in which candidates introduce themselves
  • description of people and places where the candidates live
  • dialogue with the examiner based on a common speaking situation in a picture which candidates select by lot out of 15 topics

Time for preparation is not provided.

What if I fail?

Candidates who fail may register again for another examination on a different date.

The price of the repeated examination is 1,500 CZK. Payment is due in cash at the examination site.

At what time does the exam start?

Onsite registration before the exam at the Prague-Albertov study centre starts:

  • every odd Wednesday at 9 am (the exam starts at 10 am)
  • every even Wednesday at 1 pm (the exam starts at 2 pm)
  • the 2nd Saturday in every month at 8 am (the exam starts at 9 am)

 

Onsite registration at other study centres starts:

  • on workdays at 14.00 (the exams starts at 14.30)
  • in Podebrady: on workdays at 8.30 (the exams starts at 9)
  • on Saturday at 8.30 (the exam starts at 9)
