Medicine and Science

Medical or Scientific Preparatory Programs take place in a North Bohemian city of Liberec and a spa town of Marianske Lazne. The students intensively study the Czech language first, professional subjects which are required for university entrance exams are added into their program later within the first month.

The programs are designed for candidates interested in the following subjects:

  • General Medicine
  • Dentistry
  • Veterinary Medicine
  • Pharmacy
  • Specialisations in Healthcare
  • Geology
  • Chemistry
  • Biology
  • Biomedical Engineering

An applicant may choose a one-year or two-year preparatory programme. The objective of both options is to achieve Czech language fluency at B2 level according to the Common European Framework of Reference for Languages (CEFRL) and to achieve a level in science subjects (biology, physics, and chemistry) that is standard for graduates from Czech secondary schools.

One-year preparatory programme

This programme is especially suitable for those applicants who have good backgrounds in the indicated science subjects from secondary school, or for those whose language is not too different from Czech (Slavic languages).

Extension preparation program

This program is designed especially for students who after completion of one-year preparatory course still recognize major difficulties in their field of speciality or they haven't studied some of the subjects ever before. Extension is also targeted at students who have reached B1 language level according to CEFR.
Objective of the extension preparation course is to obtain language level B2 according to CEFR and extend level of knowledge in fields of biology, physics and chemistry.

Two-year preparatory programme

The two-year preparatory programme is designed especially for those who have major deficiencies in the indicated science subjects or who did not study one of them at all in their home country, and for those whose language has a completely different structure to Czech (e.g. East Asian languages). It is possible to register for the two-year programme directly or to transfer from the one-year programme based on the results of a diagnostic test held in the second half of November.

The objective of the first year of study will be to achieve Czech language fluency at B1 level according to CEFRL, and to acquire the basic terminology needed for the science subjects. The second year will then focus on improving the language level to B2 and on instruction in biology, physics, and chemistry.
